About VOD Notes
YouTube's chapter rules, checked for you
- The first chapter starts at 00:00.
- There are at least three chapters.
- Each chapter is at least 10 seconds long.
- Chapters do not show on videos with active strikes or content marked inappropriate for some viewers.
How to use it
- Open your recording from your own disk (MP4, WebM or MOV). Nothing is uploaded.
- Press N at each moment worth keeping and type a word or two.
- Copy the chapter list into your YouTube description, or keep the notes as a brief for the edit.
- Got a video back from Sucia? Open it here and your revision notes carry the exact times.
Step by step
- Drop the recording on the page, or choose it. It plays from your own disk.
- Play it. At a moment worth noting, press N or "Note this moment": the video pauses and a note opens at that time.
- Type what happens there, or the chapter's name, and press Keep. The video plays on.
- Use the −5 s and +5 s buttons to land on the exact frame; press a note's time to jump back to it.
- Choose what you need under "What you get": an edit brief, YouTube chapters, or revision notes. Copy it or download it as a text file.
The three lists
- Edit brief: a line naming the file and the date, then each note with its time. For whoever edits the video, or the comments on a package.
- YouTube chapters: each note's time and words, one per line, ready for the description, with YouTube's rules checked first.
- Revision notes: the same times, for changes to a video you got back. Paste them in the package's chat when you ask for a change.
Why chapters matter
Chapters help viewers jump to the part they came for, and Google can show them as key moments in search results.
Rules as read on October 2, 2026 from YouTube Help: Video chapters.
Questions
- Why do my chapters not show on YouTube?
- Check the three rules above: a first chapter at 00:00, at least three chapters, each at least 10 seconds. VOD Notes flags each one before you paste.
- Can it read an MKV recording?
- Browsers cannot play MKV. Remux it to MP4 first (OBS: File, Remux Recordings); nothing is re-encoded.
- Are my notes saved?
- Yes, on this device, under the file's name. Open the same file again and its notes come back; another browser or computer starts empty.
- Is my recording uploaded?
- No. It plays from your own disk in this browser; only the notes' text leaves the page, when you copy, download or send it.
- How do I ask for changes to a YouEdit package?
- Open the package's main video here, note each change at its time, choose Revision notes and paste them in the package's chat. A revision is quoted for the parts that change.
